About Professor Peter Danne
Peter Danne is a Specialist General and Trauma Surgeon and Endoscopist.
Associate Professor Peter Danne’s Surgical training was undertaken at the University of Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. Post-Graduate Trauma Surgical Fellowship was completed at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington D.C, with further surgical training in the United Kingdom in both upper Gastrointestinal and Colorectal Surgery and Endoscopy.
A/Prof. Danne has extensive experience in a wide range of General Surgery and Endoscopy, through his surgery both in Albury Wodonga as a Regional Consultant Surgeon, and in Melbourne for the last 18 years. Currently, his surgical field is focused particularly on short stay and day stay surgery and endoscopy, based at Epworth Hospital, Richmond. He was one of the first Australian surgeons trained in laparoscopic surgery (in 1991).
A/Prof. Danne established the Surgical Trauma Service at Royal Melbourne Hospital from 1998 to 2003 and was a Senior Consultant Surgeon in the RMH Colorectal Surgical Unit from 1998 to 2008. He was instrumental in establishing the principal two educational programmes in Major Trauma for surgeons – the EMST and DSTC courses through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
The principal aim of A/Prof Danne’s practice is the provision of high quality surgical procedures in the context of good care, good communication, and attention to the overall needs of each patient.
Peter Danne is a Specialist General and Trauma Surgeon providing considerable experience in a wide range of general surgical procedures as well as colonoscopy and gastroscopy investigations and treatment.
He trained in Surgery through St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and achieved accreditation as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons ( FRACS)in 1982. Further training was undertaken in Surgery in Washington DC, and at the Gloucestershire Royal Infirmary in England in General Surgery, Colorectal and Upper GI Surgery. He also obtained accreditation as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Prof Danne has also had extensive involvement with American surgical colleagues in the Surgery of Trauma.
Peter Danne worked for several years in Albury/Wodonga as a Regional Surgeon, while maintaining a deep commitment to the development of Trauma Surgical Services in Victoria and Australia, and educational programmes in Trauma Surgery through RACS and instrumental in the initial establishment of the Trauma Centre, as Director of Trauma, at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne..
He trained in Laparoscopic Surgery, in the first year in which laparoscopic general surgical procedures where in introduced into common practice in Australia. His laparoscopic (“keyhole”) surgical work has involved gallbladder, hernia surgery, and advanced laparoscopic work in colorectal resections and anti-reflux operations and hiatal hernia repairs.
